starting the engine with an intake cam positioned at a middle position between an advance condition and a retard condition; selecting one of a first mode and a second mode as a driving mode; retarding the intake cam to a first predetermined angle range in the first mode; advancing the intake cam to a second predetermined angle range in the second mode; and positioning the intake cam at the middle position when the engine is stopped. |
