1. A method for removing tar from a gas, the method comprising:
introducing a biomass feedstock to an anaerobic gasifier, wherein heat from a fluidized particulate material causes the anaerobic gasification of at least a portion of the biomass feedstock to form a tar-containing product gas, which is extracted from the anaerobic gasifier; introducing a first gas comprising tar into a reactor, and therein contacting the first gas with a second gas comprising oxygen for time period sufficient to effect oxidation of at least a portion of the tar in the first gas, thus producing an oxidized product gas that comprises less tar than the first gas, wherein the first gas comprises at least a portion of the tar-containing product gas, wherein the first gas comprises synthesis gas, and wherein the molar ratio of H2/CO in the oxidized product gas is greater than the molar ratio of H2/CO in the first gas. |
