The present invention relates to a method and a system for estimating the transverse wave speed, which comprises the following steps: receiving a first ultrasonic signal reflected from an area of interest; generating a reference image on the area of interest; propagating a transverse wave by displacement; receiving a second ultrasonic signal reflected from the area of interest; generating a tracking image for tracking the displacement of a tissue in the area of interest; detecting at least one displacement of the tissue; estimating the arrival time of the transverse wave; and estimating the speed of the transverse wave.
