The invention relates to a device and to a method for using part of the heat given off by an internal combustion engine (1), wherein by means of a waste-heat-collecting housing (4), which surrounds at least part of an exhaust-gas manifold (2) and/or at least part of an engine-side segment (3a) of an exhaust-gas system of the internal combustion engine, the air contained in the waste-heat-collecting housing is heated, and wherein the heated air is used indirectly or directly to heat air that is introduced in a passenger compartment of the vehicle or in a stationary apparatus. Cooling liquid or engine oil can be heated by the heated air by means of the line (18-19).
