A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate which faces the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer which is provided between the first substrate and the second substrate. The liquid crystal layer includes liquid molecules which have negative dielectric anisotropies and response speeds of 4.0ms or below. The rotational viscosities of the liquid molecules are between 47mPa·S and 75 mPa·S.
