PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device capable of controlling a coil current even if a lighting control rate is narrowed during bang-bang control, and an illumination instrument.SOLUTION: A lighting device 10 includes a rectifier circuit 6 and an H bridge converter circuit 14 for receiving a DC current which is fully rectified by the rectifier circuit 6. A pulsating current target value VP indicates a target current of a coil current IL and changes in a pulsating current manner. An inverse pulsating current target value VPINV is obtained by inverting positive and negative of the pulsating current target value VP and performing DC superposition of any arbitrary voltage. An inverse coil current value VLINV is obtained by inverting positive/negative of a detection value of the coil current IL and performing DC superposition of any arbitrary voltage. Bag-bang control is performed on the inverse coil current value VLINV between a DC voltage V1 that is set higher than the inverse pulsating current target value VPINV, and the inverse pulsating current target value VPINV.
