[Class 17 (ii)] In making a lace-totoe shoe, the ramp 13, tongue 12, and quarters 14 are cut in one piece, Fig. 2, and eyelet stays 11, 11', Fig. 2, are then sewn to the instep edges 10, 10' so as to overlap the tongue 12, these stays extending from the points where the tongue meets the ramp to the sole-engaging portion of the quarter. Fig. 3 shows one of the eyelet stays, the edge 19 of which is secured by cross stitching 27, Fig. 4, to the edge 10, and, after a reinforcing strip 28 has been sewn to the quarter, the stay is folded on itself along the dotted line 21, Fig. 3, and its bound edge 25 is then sewn to the quarter 14 along the line 29, Fig. 1. The back seam edges 17, Fig. 2, are then united as usual, a counter stiffener 32, Fig. 1, inserted, and a binding 33 applied to the ankle opening and along the folded edges 21 of the eyelet stays. |
