A drum washing machine (1) comprising: a housing (100); suspension springs (300); a tub (200), where the tub (200) is arranged within the housing (100) via the suspension springs (300); a photoelectric sensor unit (400), where the photoelectric sensor unit (400) is arranged in proximity to the suspension springs (300) for detecting the amount of telescoping of the suspension springs (300); and a controller, where the controller is connected to the photoelectric sensor unit (400) and determines the weight and/or displacement of the tub (200) on the basis of a value of the amount of telescoping as detected by the photoelectric sensor unit (400).
