PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt conveying device that achieves high image quality and a reduction in size and cost, and can perform a reliable belt skew correction operation.SOLUTION: A belt conveying device drives for conveyance an endless belt 218 that is stretched for conveyance by stretching means 211 to 215, makes the stretching means 214 to be displaced in the tensile force application direction and moves in a direction orthogonal to the belt width direction, and adjusts the attitude of the stretching means to correct the position of the belt. The belt winding angle &thetas;1 between the stretching means 214 and the endless belt adjusted by first adjustment means and the coefficient of friction μ1, and the belt winding angle &thetas;2 between the stretching means 213 located on the upstream side in the belt conveyance direction with respect to the stretching means 214 and the endless belt adjusted by the first adjustment means and the coefficient of friction μ2, have the following relationship with the belt winding angle &thetas;n between the other stretching means stretching the endless belt and the endless belt &thetas;n and the coefficient of friction μn. μ1×cos((180-&thetas;1)/2)>μn×cos((180-&thetas;n)/2), and μ2×cos((180-&thetas;2)/2)>μn×cos((180-&thetas;n)/2). |
