A hermetic compressor production method according to an embodiment has a sealing step and a leak inspection step. In the sealing step, a mixed gas of helium gas and nitrogen gas is sealed into a hermetic compressor as detection gas for leak inspection of the hermetic compressor. In the leak inspection step, the hermetic compressor is inspected for helium gas leakage therefrom after the sealing step. After the leak inspection step, the hermetic compressor is shipped with the mixed gas sealed therein.
