This monitor device has, inside a vehicle, an imaging unit that is disposed with an optical axis directed toward the exterior of the vehicle and generates an image showing a subject that appears within a captured range, and, outside the vehicle, a mirror that is disposed in a position overlapping with the captured range of the imaging unit and reflects light rays from a prescribed direction toward the imaging unit. The mirror is disposed such that the reflective surface of the mirror is directed in any orientation within the range from a first orientation, in which the reflective surface reflects light rays that are parallel to the travel direction of the vehicle in a direction that is parallel to the optical axis of the imaging unit and faces toward the imaging unit, to a second orientation, in which the reflective surface reflects, toward the imaging unit, light rays that are parallel to the travel direction of the vehicle and have entered the vehicle-side end of the reflective surface. |
