When incompatible ink is used in an inkjet printer, because not all of the characteristics of the incompatible ink are consistent with compatible ink, a variety of printer failures, including nozzle clogging and printing mistakes, may be caused. Such failures cannot be precluded just by adding an IC card or the like to compatible ink so as to identify compatible ink, and trouble with an IC card itself can render an inkjet printer unusable. The abovementioned problems can be solved by providing an inkjet printer with: an input unit that, when the ink of the inkjet printer is being refilled or an ink container is being replaced, accepts input of an ID that is associated with the ink or the ink container; an ID determination unit that determines whether the inputted ID is an ID that satisfies predetermined conditions; and an ink holding mechanism that, when the determination results of the ID determination unit determine that the conditions are satisfied, allows the ink to be refilled or the container to be replaced. |
