PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the number of times of writing less than the number of times of writing upon recording data to perfectly erase data recorded in a shingled magnetic recording medium upon erasing the data recorded therein.SOLUTION: A magnetic recorder comprises: a magnetic recording medium that includes an information recording area; writing means that applies a recording magnetic field to the magnetic recording medium to form a recording string extending in a first direction; movement means that moves a relative location between the magnetic recording medium and the writing means in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction; and control means that controls the writing means and the movement means so that mutually adjacent recording strings as to the second direction are partially overlapped in the second direction in the information recording area. The writing means is configured to be operative in a record mode and in an erasure mode, and the control means is configured to control the movement means so that an amount of movement causing the relative location to move to the second direction is greater in the erasure mode than in a writing mode. |
