PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of an image forming apparatus 100.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body 101 that has a cartridge 7 removably attached thereto and a transfer unit 90 that can be removably attached to the apparatus body 101 separately from the cartridge 7. A developing device 4 in the cartridge 7 has a developer carrier 6 that carries a developer and can take a contact position to bring the developer carrier 6 into contact with an image carrier 1 and a separation position to separate the developer carrier 6 from the image carrier 1. The transfer unit 90 includes a developing contact/separation mechanism 189 that moves the developing device 4 between the contact position and the separation position. |
