[Classes 72 and 82 (i).] In an annealing or carburizing box, the base and side walls are made of a cast metal sheet of a heat-resisting alloy, the lower edges of the side walls being welded to the edges of the base and the adjacent vertical edges of the side walls welded together. In one form, Fig. 1, the vertical edges of the side walls 4 are provided with ribs 10 which are welded to the edges of the wall 6, and the base 2 is provided with an upstanding rib 8 to which the lower edges of the walls 4, 6 are welded. The upper edges of the walls are provided with ribs 11. The walls may be made up of portions 14, Fig. 8, one abutting edge being provided with an offset portion 16 having shoulders 17, 18 to which the plain edge of the next portion 14 is welded. When the box is of cylindrical form, the circular base is provided with an upstanding rib and the side walls may be in sections which are connected together in the same manner as the portions 14. The box may be made of an alloy containing 60 per cent of nickel, 15 per cent of chromium, and 25 of iron. |
