The invention relates to a method for manufacturing and installing a motor of a traction elevator. In the method there is determining a plurality of parameters of an electrical motor during a testing of the motor. The plurality of parameters of the motor determined are stored to a memory. The memory is installed to the electrical. The motor is installed in the elevator. A communication channel is connected between a drive unit and the memory comprising the plurality of motor parameters. The elevator and the drive unit are powered on. The drive unit determines a plurality of elevator parameters required in driving the elevator correctly using the plurality of parameters of the motor.
