A gas detector (100) and method are presented. The gas detector (100) includes a launcher unit (102) for coupling and merging light beams (104 and 106) in mid-infrared and infrared wavelength ranges into a single light beam (110) and directing the merged single light beam towards a gas flow path (114); a receiver unit (122) for generating at least one photo detector current signal (150) based on the light beam (120) transmitted through the gas flow path (114); and a control unit (124) for processing at least one photo detector current signal (150) to measure concentration of the at least two gases present in the gas flow path (114).
