The present invention relates to a technology for a sensor network, machine to machine (M2M) communications, machine-type communications (MTCs), and Internet of things (IoT). The present disclosure can be applied to an intelligent service (a smart home, a smart building, a smart city, a smart car or a connected car, health care, digital education, a retail business, a security and safe service and so on) which is based on the technology. According to a method of a server for changing a mode of a device of the present invention, at least one from a user preference document, including information related to whether mode synchronization between devices is activated, a device context profile (DCP) document, including rules applied for each mode, and a DCP directory document, including information related to a profile activated in the DCP document is received and registered; if information related to mode change of a master device is received, the pre-registered user preference document, DCP document, and DCP directory document are changed based on the changed mode of the master device; and at least one from the changed user preference document, DCP document, and DCP directory document is transmitted to at least one slave device. |
