An electrical connector comprises a contact module including a leadframe (122) surrounded by a dielectric frame (126). The leadframe (122) has signal conductors including transition contacts (174) encased in the dielectric frame (126). The transition contacts (174) are coplanar such that the transition contacts (174) are arranged within a contact plane (170) of the leadframe (122). The signal conductors have mating contacts (177, 179) extending from the corresponding transition contacts (174). Each of the mating contacts has a mating interface configured to be electrically connected to a corresponding mating contact of a mating connector. The mating contacts are arranged in pairs with the corresponding mating interfaces aligned in rows along corresponding row axes (196). Each pair of mating contacts is arranged in a respective different one of the rows.
