According to various embodiments of the present invention, a method for operating an electronic device comprises the following steps: determining comparison reference value information based on context information of the electronic device at a time point to detect a fingerprint; and recognizing a fingerprint corresponding to the detected fingerprint according to the comparison reference value information. The method for operating an electronic device is not limited to the described method. Other embodiments are possible in an identical or a similar range of the present invention.
