[Class 144 (ii).] A method of making pneumatic tyres comprises shaping rubberized fabric material into tyre form, lining the inner surface of the shaped tyre form with vulcanizable material and lapping the material about the bead portions of the tyre, inserting a sleeve of vulcanizable material axially into the central opening of the tyre, and securing the end portions of the sleeve to the lapped portions of the lining. As shown in Fig. 2, a tyre carcass 17 is formed by applying a strip 12 of rubber compound to a drum 11 and superposing a ply 13, the end portions of which are folded inwardly along lines 14, and a tread 18. The carcass is then slid from the drum and after its edge portions are shirred upon the bead elements 19, Fig. 2, it is shaped as shown, for example, by means of an air bag. Annular strips 20 of rubber compound then have their ends stitched on the edges 22 of the strip 12 and the bead portions 23 of the carcass respectively. A cylindrical sleeve 24 of uncured or partially cured rubber compound, having a valve stem secured therein, is stitched on the portions 23a of the strips 20 and a curing hub 27, with removable flanges 28, inserted therethrough, the whole being placed in a mould and the rubber vulcanized. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also an arrangement in which a opartially vulcanized inner tube is inserted within the carcass 17 and after the curing hub 27 has been positioned as in Fig. 2, the carcass and inner tube are vulcanized together.
