<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for allowing a user to recognize a solid image in a good state not significantly depending on a view angle, having an excellent light-shielding property and suppressing a cross-talk. <P>SOLUTION: A solid image recognition device includes a pair of shutter elements and a drive part for selectively operating the shutter elements. Each shutter element includes: first and second substrates; a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second substrates; and first and second polarizers that have respective absorption axes disposed substantially orthogonally and are disposed oppositely with the first and second substrates sandwiched therebetween. The liquid crystal layer is segregated into a number of domains when no voltage is applied; liquid crystal molecules have a state where the orientation directions of the molecules are twisted by substantially 90 degrees between the first and second substrates in the respective domains. The orientation directions of the liquid crystal molecules at borders with the first and second substrates are random in each of the domains. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT</p> |
