<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a crosswalk from a photographic image by an in-vehicle camera which moves with a vehicle while reducing a load on the arithmetic processing of a control system. <P>SOLUTION: The edge processing of the portion of the image recognition area of a photographic image from a camera 60 loaded on a vehicle is performed by a microcomputer 30, and the high speed Fourier inverse transformation of the edge-processed image signal is performed by image recognition LSI 51, and a zebra pattern having strong periodicity is extracted from the image recognition area.
