PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absolute encoder that is advantageous in terms of efficiency of selection of a code string and correctness thereof.SOLUTION: An absolute encoder includes: a scale (2) that has a mark arrayed; a detection unit (1) that detects a signal corresponding to the mark of a plurality of marks on the scale; and a processing unit (3) that obtains an absolute position corresponding to the signal. The processing unit is configured to select one code string of a group of code strings corresponding to the absolute position as a candidate group of the code string corresponding to the signal, and select the code string corresponding to the signal from the candidate group. |
