The present invention relates to a refrigerator and a method for controlling the same. More specifically, the present invention provides information with respect to food stored in the refrigerator even if a user does not open a door. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator comprises: a storage chamber formed by a fixed insulation wall in a main body of the refrigerator and having an opening; the door provided for the main body to be rotated in order to open and close the opening; a drawer provided inside the storage chamber; a camera provided to be fixated to a ceiling of the storage chamber to simultaneously take an image of a portion (a first region) where the food is stored in an outer space of the drawer inside the storage chamber and a portion (a second region) where the food is stored in an inner space of the drawer inside the storage chamber; and a control unit separating the portion with respect to the first region (a first region image) from the portion with respect to the second region (a second region image) in the image in accordance with time when the image of has been taken, wherein the first region and the second region are simultaneously captured in the image in order to separate and individually store the portions.
