PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording element substrate that can attain high picture quality and high durability, and also can suppress increases in substrate size and cost.SOLUTION: A recording element substrate has a discharge port 140 which discharges a liquid, a heat generating resistance element which generates heat energy for discharging the liquid from the discharge port 140, and a driving circuit which drives the heat generating resistance element. The heat generating resistance element has a heat generating resistor layer 105, and electrodes 151, 154 provided for the heat generating resistor layer 105. Three electrodes 151, 154 each are provided, and the driving circuit forms a heat generating area where heat energy is generated by selectively using two or more electrodes out of those electrodes 151, 154 on the heat generating resistor layer 105. |
