[Class 100 (i).] A web-controlling mechanism comprises supports 12, for the web rolls 10, which are rotatably mounted in frames 14 and brakes are mounted upon the web roll shafts and adapted to be automatically selectively engaged when the web roll assumes its running position. The Figure shows brake shoes 24 actuated by the solenoids 28 wired to commutator segments 30 contacting with brushes 32 leading to a source of supply. A resistance 37 controlled by a pilot roller 36 may be incorporated in the solenoids circuit. The whole of the braking force may be supplied by the brakes 24 or a part may be obtained by the band brake 17. Specification 382,608 is referred to.
