PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide modified graphite which is porous, has a high area specific capacity (F/cm) or a high volume specific capacity (F/cm) and makes an electrochemical element higher in capacity and output by using as a material for electrode materials.SOLUTION: A modified graphite has a specific surface area by the BET method of 270 m/g or higher and at least one peak in the range of diameters of 2-50 nm in the pore distribution by the BJH method.
