PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cermet capable of making a cutting tool excellent in chipping resistance.SOLUTION: Provided is a cermet provided with a Ti-containing hard phase particles and a binder phase including at least either Ni or Co, in which 70% or higher of the hard phase particles among all the hard phase particles include a cored structure having a core part and a circumferential part formed at the outer circumference thereof. The core part comprises at least one among Ti carbides, Ti nitrides and Ti carbonitrides as the main component, and the circumferential part comprises a Ti composite compound including at least one kind selected from W, Mo, Ta, Nb and Cr, and Ti as the main component. Provided that the average particle diameter of the core part is defined as α and the average particle diameter of the circumferential part is defined as &bgr;, 1.1≤&bgr;/α≤1.7 is satisfied, and the average particle diameter of the hard phase particles being above 1.0 μm. |
