PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cladding material which suppresses peeling by increasing the joining strength between an Mg layer and an Al layer and is inexpensive at a level allowing industrially practical applications and free of use regulations as to the environment and easy to produce.SOLUTION: A cladding material 1 includes an Mg core material layer composed of an Mg-based alloy, an Al layer 11 composed of an Al-based alloy and an intermediate layer 13 which is arranged between the Mg core material layer 10 and the Al layer 11, joins the Mg core material layer 10 and the Al layer 11 together and is composed of an Ni- or Fe-based alloy.
