[Class 146 (iii).] In a pencil-sharpener of the kind having a block-shaped body or housing provided with a conical cavity, and employing a safety-razor blade having a central hole, the blade is mounted on a screw member 1 capable of movement in the body of the sharpener but held in the correct cutting position by means of a spring 2 mounted on the screw member ; a protective steel member is also provided for the blade. The screw 1 is situated in an elongated hole 4 in the body of the sharpener for transverse movement, and thespring 2 engages over the screw with its legs. abutting against the wall of a recess 5 in the body. The protector is I-shaped, provided with a central hole to engage the screw 1, and has bent-over portions which engage over the top and bottom cutting edges of the blade. The blade and protector are held on the screw by a nut 3, and a cover plate 9 is held over the assembly by means of another nut. The screw 1 has a lug 6 to facilitate withdrawal. The resilient mounting of the blade allows the latter to move back out of cutting position when it meets a particularly hard portion of a pencil. |
