TERAHERTZ WAVE GENERATOR AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strong and wide-band terahertz wave generator having a spectrum smoothness in a wide-band with a simple structure and a method of terahertz wave generation.SOLUTION: A terahertz wave generator 1 includes: a nonlinear optical crystal 3 that generates terahertz waves by means of a nonlinear optical effect; a light source 5 that emits a laser beam 11 having a first wave length and a second wave length to the nonlinear optical crystal 3; and a rotary stage 8 that adjusts the incident angle of the laser beam 11 relative to the end face 3y so that the laser beam 11 passes through the inside of the nonlinear optical crystal 3 and is reflected one end face 3y, and a first wave length component 11p of the laser beam before reflection and a second wave length component 11s of the laser beam after the reflection satisfy the non-collinear phase conformity condition.
