PURPOSE:To obtain a high-density reproduced image which has inconspicuous unnaturalness and high reproducibility by paying attention not only to light and shade relation between a upper and an lower picture element to be interpolated, but also to the said relation between a left and a right picture element. CONSTITUTION:Image information 1 having low line density sent from the outside is stored temporarily in an input image memory 2. Then, the information is transferred, line by line, to a right-upper-line memory 4 and a right-lower-line memory 5 successively. In this case, pieces of image information on a right- upper and a right-lower line are sent to a function gate 3 at the same time. The function gate 3 performs arithmetic by using those pieces of image information to determine the light and shade level of a picture element on an interpolated line. This value is stored in an interpolated-line memory successively. Pieces of information from the line memories 4, 5 and 6 are stored in an output image memory 7. The function gate 3 determines one picture element on the line to be interpolated by using the upper and lower, and left and right picture elements. |
