ANTIFOAM DEVICE AND METHOD OF USE FOR SEAWATER FOAM CONTROL

An antifoam device and a method of using the antifoam device are useful to control levels of foam generated on the surface of effluent seawater during aeration of the effluent seawater in a seawater aeration basin. Effluent seawater contained within the seawater aeration basin may be produced in a seawater flue gas desulfurization system associated with a power plant or an aluminum production plant.

1. A foam control system comprising:
a seawater aeration basin fluidly connected to a high pressure side of a fan operable to blow an oxygen containing gas into effluent seawater in the seawater aeration basin; and a low pressure side of a fan operable to suction foam from a surface of effluent seawater in the seawater aeration basin into an antifoam device comprising: a housing equipped with an inlet and an outlet; a spray system operable to spray fluid within the housing toward at least one perforated plate arranged across an interior area of the housing dividing the interior area into an inlet area and an outlet area; a mist eliminator arranged in fluid communication with the outlet; and a drain duct in fluid communication with a bottom of the interior area operational for draining fluid from the antifoam device.
