PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state imaging element and an imaging apparatus in which, while inhibiting the circuit scale from being increased, the total reading period form pixel mixture to a plurality of amplifiers is shortened.SOLUTION: Disclosed a solid state imaging element which includes: a plurality of pixels which are arranged in a row direction and a column direction; a first vertical signal line in which a pair of pixels is disposed in one pixel column and to which every other pixel arranged in one pixel column is connected; a second vertical signal line to which the remaining every other pixel arranged in one pixel column is connected; and a drive part which drives a plurality of pixels so that at least signals of two pixels are simultaneously outputted onto the first or the second same vertical signal line of the same pixel column when pixel mixture is performed to set a mode in which signals of the pixels are read out.
