PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precise, easily used and operator independent method for determining the hydration status of a dialysis patient, identifying or predicting the dry weight of such a patient and calculating the amount of fluid that should be removed during a dialysis session.SOLUTION: The invention includes a device for determining the dry body weight during dialysis, and a method of determining the dry body weight of a patient undergoing dialysis by means of segmental bioimpedance analysis. The dry body weight is determined by comparison to bioimpedance values of normal subjects or by monitoring changes in bioimpedance during dialysis. |
