PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light emitting device and a method for manufacturing the same, which substantially suppresses light crosstalk and can clearly and visually recognize light-dark between elements on an irradiation image.SOLUTION: A semiconductor light emitting device comprises: a mounting substrate 11; a plurality of semiconductor light emitting elements 20 arranged on the mounting substrate; a phosphor layer PL formed so as to cover the entirety of a plurality of semiconductor light emitting elements and containing a binder layer BD and a plurality of phosphor particles PP provided on the binder layer BD; and an altered binder part CB formed in the phosphor layer on a region between elements of a plurality of semiconductor light emitting elements and containing an altered material of the binder layer.
