PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material discrimination device capable of preventing the sheet material discrimination accuracy from being impaired and also to provide an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A sheet material discrimination device 100 comprises information detection means 110 for detecting the information of a sheet material P and discrimination means 600 for discriminating the sheet material on the basis of the information of the sheet material detected by the information detection means, and when at least a part of the sheet material is located at an information detectable position, the sheet material discrimination device 100 moves the sheet material relative to the device and detects the sheet material information at plural locations on the sheet material by the information detection means, the sheet material discrimination device being used outside an image forming apparatus. The sheet material discrimination device further comprises: information detectable time detection means for detecting information detectable time during which the sheet material information can be detected; and control means which if the information detectable time detected by the information detectable time detection means is shorter than a preset first reference time, controls the discrimination means not to perform discrimination of the sheet material. |
