A safety cigarette lighter includes a spring comprising a resilient member mounted in compression under the pivoted push lever end - the gas pedal. In one version, a free end of the spring passing through the push lever engages with the typically serrated drive wheels of the sparking wheel assembly, preventing rotation unless the gas pedal has already been pushed harder than a child can push. In another version, a surface of the push lever bearing serrations is pushed up against the serrated wheels by a hidden spring, preventing rotation unless the gas pedal has already been sufficiently depressed. |
