The present invention relates to a vaccine composition for preventing tuberculosis, containing MTBK 24820 protein. According to the present invention, an application of the MTBK 24820 protein as an antigen shows high capability of producing interferon gamma (IFNγ) in spleen and lungs of an animal model infected by tuberculosis bacillus, and also ensures the fast formation of acquired protective immunity and maintains the memorization of T cells, thereby effectively preventing tuberculosis. Moreover, the MTBK 24820 protein according to the present invention can be used for tuberculosis treatment, thereby preventing the reinfection or recurrence of highly pathogenic tuberculosis, which shows high recurrence rate, and being useful for improving treatment efficiency.
