COMPOSITION OF THE AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF NIGELLA SATIVA HAVING ANTISPASMODIC AND ANALGESIC ACTIVITY

According to the present invention, the analgesic and antispasmodic activities of the aqueous extract of Nigella sativa (at doses of 1 and 2 mg / kg IP) were studied. Analgesic activity was assessed by the sensitivity test (for central action), induced by acetic acid, and by the writhing test (for peripheral action) in mice. Antispasmodic activity was assessed by the isometric transducer in rabbits. The aqueous extract at a test dose of 1 and 2 mg / kg considerably lengthens (P < 0.05) the latency time of the thermally induced pain reaction in mice compared with morphine (M) at a dose of 0.1 mg / kg, and significantly (P < 0.001) inhibits the writhing induced by acetic acid. The extract has been proven to have significant analgesic activity compared with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) at a dose of 150 mg / kg. In addition, the aqueous extract causes dose-dependent relaxation in rabbit intestines with an IC50 of the order of 64.7 ± 1.2 pg / ml and a very significant antispasmodic effect compared with trimebutine as a positive control (IC50 = 49.6 ± 1.1 pg / ml). The conclusion is that the aqueous extract of NS has antinociceptive and antispasmodic activity.
