One variation of a method for remotely controlling a payment card in real-time through a computing device includes: at the computing device, establishing a wireless connection with a payment card; over the wireless connection, receiving a first identifier of a first payment method corresponding to a first payment emulation command stored on the payment card; in response to receiving the first identifier of the first payment method, rendering a first notification on a display of the computing device, the first notification indicating the first payment method; and in response to receiving a selection for the first notification rendered on the display of the computing device, transmitting an instruction to the payment card, over the wireless connection, to emulate the first payment method according to the first payment emulation command during an upcoming transaction. |
