PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light emitting element which not only improves light extraction efficiency and in which a defect is less likely to be generated in an electrode formation process and in a resin encapsulation process by improving a shape of a light emission surface.SOLUTION: In a semiconductor light emitting element having a luminous layer and a light emitting surface for emitting light produced by the luminous layer, the light emitting surface has a convexoconcave part (salient (15)) where a plurality of salients or recesses are periodically arranged and fine pits (16) formed to have a width smaller than a wavelength of light produced by the luminous layer.
