<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment apparatus and a water treatment method capable of cleaning a prefiltering unit and performing maintenance at a low cost without damaging a reverse osmosis membrane in the water treatment apparatus configured by storing a reverse osmosis membrane unit and the prefiltering unit in the same storage section. <P>SOLUTION: The water treatment apparatus includes: the prefiltering unit 1 for prefiltering water to be treated; the reverse osmosis membrane unit 2 for separating the treated water of the unit 1 into permeable water and concentrated water through the reverse osmosis membrane; a direct connection part 3 for transferring the treated water obtained by the prefiltering unit 1 to the reverse osmosis membrane unit 2; an exterior body for storing the prefiltering unit 1, the direct connection part 3 and the reverse osmosis membrane unit 2 in the same storage section; a permeable water transfer channel 4 for transferring the permeable water from the reverse osmosis membrane unit 2; a concentrated water transfer channel 5 for transferring the concentrated water from the reverse osmosis membrane unit 2; and a transfer channel opening/closing means for opening/closing the transfer channels 4, 5.
