<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a label affixing device and a method of affixing a label whereby it is possible to affix linerless labels in the correct orientation and at the correct position on an article to be labeled without being influenced by the impact force at the time of cutting the linerless label sheet into an individual linerless label of a prescribed length, the reaction of the linerless label when cut and separated, and an adhesive agent applied to an affixing surface. <P>SOLUTION: The label affixing device B includes: a label issuing unit B1 that pulls off a label sheet 1' from a linerless label roll 1, cuts the label sheet into an individual label of prescribed length, and dispenses the label; and a label affixer B2. The the label issuing unit includes: a feeder 4 that feeds the linerless label sheet of a prescribed length from the linerless label roll; a cutter 6 that cuts a segment of the linerless label sheet at the end portion upstream of the feeding direction of the linerless label sheet; and a controller that controls the operation of the cutter.
