A temperature control system 10 includes a compressor 1, condenser 4, expansion valve 5, and evaporator 6 connected in series by refrigerant pipes 21. At least one heat exchanger 3, located between the compressor 1 and condenser 4 transfers heat energy from an external heat source 2 to the refrigerant leaving the compressor 1. One or more flow control members 7 may direct the refrigerant either through one of the heat exchangers 3 or to bypass the heat exchanger 3 to go directly from compressor 1 to condenser 4. The system may comprise an array (203, Fig. 3) of heat exchangers (233, Fig. 3) where at least two of the heat exchangers (233, Fig. 3) are in series or parallel. The heat exchanger 3 may comprise pipes containing a heated fluid over which the refrigerant is passed, a tank containing heated fluid and submerged refrigerant pipes (422, Fig. 5), or a solar panel. The system 10 may comprise a 4-way valve (1101, Fig. 11) to direct the flow of refrigerant in a cooling or heating direction. Methods of heating and cooling an environment using the system are also claimed. |
