摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilevel power converter that implements a compact and inexpensive device by dispensing with a voltage balancing circuit and reducing the number of semiconductor elements required. <P>SOLUTION: The multilevel power converter includes: a DC power supply V<SB POS="POST">DC</SB>; a reactor L, switching elements S9, S10, capacitors C1, C2 and switching elements S11, S12 sequentially connected in series between positive and negative ends of V<SB POS="POST">DC</SB>; switching elements S1-S4 and S5-S8 both connected between both ends of the series of C1, C2; diodes D1, D2 connected in series between a common junction of S1, S2 and a common junction of S3, S4; diodes D3, D4 connected in series between a common junction of S5, S6 and a common junction of S7, S8; and control means for controlling on/off S1-S8 to switch a multilevel voltage.
