A method of providing an interactive user interface having a user interface element with a current display parameter value, for example position or brightness, (Xs) and updating this to a new interpolated display parameter (X1). The method includes determining a target parameter value (Xe) for the interface element in response to user input, determining a new display parameter value (X1) for the user interface by interpolating between the current display parameter value and target display parameter value and updating the current parameter value to the new display parameter value. The interpolation may be variable and depend on the difference between the parameter values. The target parameter may be continuously updated. Methods of, providing an interactive user interface for a television display responsive to a user operated remote control having a touch sensitive surface, controlling playback, scrolling a displayed two dimensional grid, displaying additional information which in turn is removed in response to the scrolling of the display of programme information items, providing a vertical menu to one side of a program guide, displaying first and second channel live video feeds and displaying a selected program banner with a reduced transparency for given channels, and a remote control device having a touch sensitive surface that includes a central area couple to tactile switch are also set out and claimed. |
