The invention relates to a laser protection module (3) for protecting an object (1) from irradiation of laser light (15), in particular from the irradiation of laser light (15) from a high energy laser. In order to permit the use of the laser protection module (3) irrespective of the wavelengths of each laser, up to very high laser powers, according to the invention the laser protection module (3) consists of a hollow body (5) that can be connected to the object to be protected (1), the cavity of said hollow body being filled with a material (11) that generates steam or smoke when irradiated with laser light. When sufficiently high laser light (15) energy is used, the materials (11) situated in the cavity evaporate, wherein the steam (smoke) diffuses the laser light (15) such that the object to be protected (1) is not damaged by the laser light (15), or such that any damage to the object (1) is delayed so that appropriate counter measures can be taken.
