<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer configured such that using a suitable mode based on use results, the printer gives information about a cartridge suitable for printing based on specific print data, among one or more types of cartridges, and also to provide a control program for a printer, and a printing system. <P>SOLUTION: The tape printer 1 is configured such that one or more types of tape cassettes 30 can be loaded in a cassette accommodating part 20. The printer 1 prints using the loaded tape cassettes 30. When a specific label data is selected, the tape printer 1 specifies the type of a tape cassette loaded in the cassette accommodating part 20 (S3), and determines whether or not the cassette is a recommended one. If the cassette is not a recommended one, the tape printer 1 specifies a recommended cassette on the basis of the specific label data and a cassette type specifying table 53A and refers to its use result information (S8).
